The Highway Superintendent is the head of the highway department and has general control over location, relocation, construction, reconstruction, repair, and maintenance of the county road system, including bridges.

The County Highway Commission recommends the annual road list, proposes the annual budget for the Highway Department, and is responsible for acquisition of land necessary for roadways and bridges. They are also responsible for the selection of the Highway Superintendent, among many other duties and responsibilities.

The Williamson County Highway Commission met on 5/1/13 and the following information was provided to interested parties present at meeting:

- The Hwy Dept. is presently considering various options for subject roadway

- Collier Engineering will make a presentation of options available for roadway on 3 July at 8:30 am. at the regularly scheduled Hwy Comm meeting; at this time there are no plans or concept designs prepared for this roadway

- Both the Hwy Comm Chairman and Hwy Supt stated they are making every effort to preserve the historical look of Old Natchez Trace and stressed to those present that the tree canopy will not be removed/cut down nor will any rock walls be disturbed

- There is presently no start date for any work on this roadway

- Any updates to this information will be posted as they become available
